We're happy to announce that the 2009 "Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee" will have Honourary Co-Chairs:  Paul and Jean Truex...

Paul and Jean are both highly respected Guelph residents who have made an ongoing commitment to service to others.

Paul is retired from Johnson & Johnson. His 33-year career included leadership positions in information management, finance, and talent management. He has a long history of community engagement, having served as President of the Rotary Club of Guelph, President of Family & Children's Services for Guelph -Wellington, Board Chair of the River Run Centre, Board Chair for Crime Stoppers of Guelph and Wellington County, and Board member of the Wellington-Dufferin Community Care Access Centre. He also currently chairs the Guelph Hydro Inc. Board of Directors and co-Chairs the Waterloo-Wellington Local Health Integration Network.

Paul also served Rotary as a Past District Governor for District 7080.  From our Club's beginnings in 2001 he has been an ardent supporter and an inspiration to the membership.

Jean is the 2004 City of Guelph "Mayor's Award" recipient - excerpt from the City's website from when she received this honour:  "Jean is an outstanding teacher who was employed with Tytler Public School for approximately 18 years.   After retirement, Jean remained at the school as a volunteer where she initiated a "1 - 2 - 3 - Go" primary readiness program at the school. As well, Jean volunteered for a program that seeks to provide needy children with a quality "best start" program for education. This program is in its second year with much of the funding for materials coming from Jean herself. Jean truly offers the children a head start into the school system with a tireless, dedicated, and caring personality. Her dedication to Guelph's young citizens is inspiring."

We are honoured that they have agreed to lend their support to us at one of our 2 signature fundraising events, and we look forward to spending an enjoyable evening with them on October 22nd.
