The team from Segue Music "Suite Segue Schpellarz" won the 4th Annual Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee.  They successfully spelled the word 'vexillologist" (definition: a study of flags) in the 6th round - the only team of the 3 in that final round that spelled their word correctly....

The championship team consisted of members Judy Greenhill, Rick Avery and Barbara Broererman.  2009 was the second year that Segue Music had fielded a team in the Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee.  Besides winning medals and individual prizes from sponsor Valentini Hair Design & Spa, they will also have possession of the Champion Speller Trophy for the next year...and of course the bragging rights that come with the victory.

The "River Ridge Royals" team from River Ridge Condominiums won the "Best Costumes" prize.  The Homewood Staff Association team "The Lexicon Artists" took the prize for "Best Team Spirit".  Rotary Club of Guelph-Trillium's "Ribfest Rackademics" took the prize for 1st team eliminated in the 4th round on the word "kerf" (definition: a slit made by cutting, especially with a saw).

The team from Rotary Club of Guelph "BBC" was awarded the prizes (Motorola Bluetooth Visor Handsfree Kits, donated by Bill Smith of Telus Mobility) for "Most Pledges Raised".  The team from Michael House "Babe-Bees" were the runner-up team for pledges.

Congratulations to the winning team!  Hope to see you next year at the 5th Annual event!
