Youth Days of Action

Christine Oldfield is Executive Director of PIN (formerly Volunteer Centre of Guelph-Wellington) and will speak on the new special initiative they are launching called "Youth Days of Action".  It involves taking bus loads of students (25-50) to a local nonprofit or charity, to learn about what they do and to participate in a group volunteer activity.  Examples of group activities might be tree planting, sorting food at a food bank, yard work at Guelph/Wellington Women in Crisis etc.  The target audience of this initiative are students who are at risk of not graduating because of failure to meet the community service hours requirement.  The goal of the program is 3-fold:

  1. introduce students to places to volunteer in their community
  2. complete a portion of their required community service hours, and
  3. encourage a life long commitment to volunteering

SHARE Agriculture Foundation

SHARE Agriculture Foundation is an effective Canadian non-profit charity organization.  SHARE stands for Sending Help and Resources Everywhere.
SHARE provides funding, guidance, and expertise to agriculturally-based communities in third world developing countries, with a focus on Central and South America.
Our projects are in the poorest, most isolated communities. SHARE chooses communities where the projects will have the greatest impact.
SHARE is based on the principle of a "hand-up" rather than a "hand-out". The focus is on sustainable projects that increase a community's capacity to care for itself.
Les Frayne is SHARE Project Manager for Central America.

“I am a great fan of the work that SHARE does. This organization has an impact on a tremendous number of lives, increases the benefits through the “pass on principle” and isn’t burdened with large administration cost. This is a volunteer driven registered charity in the purest sense of it.” ~ SHARE Honorary Patron, Mark Cullen C.M.

Pedal For Portage - September 22, 2018

Portage Ontario, a non-profit organisation established in 1985, operates a residential drug addiction rehabilitation centre for youth in Elora, Ontario.
In the therapeutic community environment, residents work through the underlying issues that caused their substance abuse and develop a set of social competencies that will help them deal with the challenges of everyday life without resorting to drug abuse. They develop the self-esteem and confidence to go on to lead healthy, productive, drug-free lives.

The Portage Elora treatment centre serves Ontario youth referred by parents, schools, family physicians, hospitals, other addiction-treatment and youth-serving agencies, as well as Youth Justice and the Children's Aid Society.

We all know someone, whether a family member, friend, or colleague, who has been affected by addiction in some way. It wreaks havoc on our society and it is our shared responsibility to help young people who are suffering before it’s too late. At Portage, they can acquire the skills to free themselves from the grasp of addiction. It will assure them a better future, and benefit all of society.

Be part of a community ready to bring awareness to the Portage Residential Treatment Centre in Elora and support vulnerable Ontario youth working to combat their substance dependency and go on to lead healthy, productive and drug-free lives.  For information contact:  drodrigo@portage.ca  416-531-1333 or 519-501-5135

Know Your Limits: A Hands on Introduction to Keeping Healthy

Since Dr. Peter Fraser graduated from Philip Institute of Technology (Melbourne) in 1991, he has provided chiropractic care in Australia, Northern Ireland and England while attending numerous postgraduate courses, searching for knowledge and techniques that will provide his patients with maximum results. Recently, Dr. Fraser released ownership of 2 chiropractic centres in England to return to Canada.

Previous to his career as a chiropractor, Dr. Fraser held positions as Executive Director of several Canadian Sport Governing Bodies administrating programs at the national and international level. Dr. Fraser graduated with a BA. and M.A from the University of Western Ontario while captaining the Mustangs hockey team and achieving All Canadian status at centre. He then played and coached in the Swiss National Hockey League system.

Dr. Fraser sees a common link among all people – babies, children, youth and adult – we wish to live our lives at the maximum level of our ability; however we do not always know how to achieve it. To achieve this potential is the motivation that Dr. Fraser has for your health. Since the neurological system is the master controller of the human experience, this can only be achieved when the nervous system is working at its maximum potential.

I look forward to providing you and your family with gentle and effective chiropractic care to assist you and your family to live a healthier and fuller life.

Every couple of months our club takes a weekly meeting and skips having a formal program or speaker - rather the members are free to spend the meeting enjoying each other's company.  And they do!
It's probably the most vivid example of how we "come together as strangers, work together as friends".
