The members of the Rotary Club of Guelph South responded quickly to the need of the Haitian people upon hearing of the devastating earthquake of January 12 2010.

The Board of Directors met on January 18 2010 and considered options for providing relief as quickly as possible, so as to take advantage of the Canadian Government's pledge to match all donations to registered Canadian charities for relief to Haiti.  Such donations must be made by no later than February 12 2010 in order to be eligible for matching.

The Board of Directors approved donations to the following registered Canadian charities, to come from funds held by their Charitable Foundation:

ShelterBox Canada

For a ShelterBox that will provide temporary housing and supplies for 10 people in Haiti

Rotary Club of Stratford Charitable Foundation

For an AquaBox that will provide 15,000 litres of clean water in Haiti

Friends of the Orphans

Direct contribution to an organization that provides services to orphans in Haiti

As well, since then, members and friends of the Club have donated many dollars personally to the Foundation to be directed to Haiti relief.  These will be tabulated and reported following the February 12 2010 deadline for federal government matching.

Thanks to everyone for their support!
