Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of our Charter (July 31, 2001)
20 weeks of "TBT" memories
Week #9 (September 23, 2021)
As part of the planning for our Rotary club being chartered, a decision needed to be made regarding where our weekly meetings would be held.  The steering committee that was doing this planning assessed a number of different locations, taking into account things like accessibility, availability of meals, overall ambience and suitability for meetings.  The Springfield Golf & Country Club in the south end of Guelph was one of those locations considered.  The provisional club meetings were held in the restaurant there and it proved to check all the boxes!  It has been our home ever since and we have been treated so well by the management there.  As well as holding our weekly meetings there we have been able to book other special events as well, taking advantage of the different rooms and services that they are able to provide.  They have supported us and we are happy to support them as well!  It has been a wonderful partnership over the past 20 years.
Rotarians are all volunteers and Rotary International provides special recognition for clubs and members that excel in providing “Service Above Self”.  In 2009 one of our charter members, Margaret Nixon, received the “4 Avenues of Service” award, and our club received a 2008-2009 “Presidential Citation”.  Rotary’s charity, The Rotary Foundation, also recognizes significant contributions made with its Paul Harris Fellow award, and by 2009 that award had been presented to 5 of our charter members.  The Paul Harris Fellow has been awarded to other Rotarians as well as non-Rotarians who have distinguished themselves with their service in the community.  While service is provided freely and without an expectation for recognition, it is appreciated when it is justifiably received. We are proud of all members who have been recognized both at the District and International level for their service to their community and beyond.
