Congratulations Charlie!  A Silver Medal finish today in the World Triathlon Sprint Championship in Montreal, in the 85-89 years young group.  No photos yet from the Medal Ceremony but will be posted as soon as one is available.  We are exceptionally proud of Charlie who has been a member of our Rotary club - and an inspiration - since 2019.
The event started with the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony on June 23rd, just as we were meeting at Fixed Gear for the President Changeover event.  Charlie’s event took place today (June 25th) starting at 7:15am and covered the traditional sprint distance:  750m swim, followed by a 20km bike ride and a final 5km run.  The Medal Ceremony takes place on Saturday night (June 25th) and the Closing Ceremonies will take place on Sunday June 26th.
Charlie insists that this will be his final triathlon but it’s hard to imagine that, after a 5th place finish in London in 2013, then the Bronze in Rotterdam in 2017, then the Silver in Montreal in 2022, that he might not be tempted to try just one more for that Gold medal after all.  It appears he’s not getting older, he’s getting better!

Charlie Barnes was inducted in the Guelph "Sports Hall of Fame" in 2019.
