This year, the club increased its level of support in the provision of dictionaries to eligible Grade 3 students by extending a presence into the private school sector of our community....

Four new schools were added, including:

Guelph Community Christian School (January 12th, Rotarians Cheryl Cowan & Neil Mahnke)

Crestwicke Christian Academy (January 13th, Rotarian Cheryl Cowan)

Guelph Montessori School (January 14th, Rotarians Cheryl Cowan & Ann Caine)

Trillium Waldorf School (January 15th, Rotarians Cheryl Cowan & Celia Clark)

As well, we repeated our visits to Aberfoyle Public School (January 14th, Rotarians Cheryl Cowan & Thomas Newby) and Rickson Ridge Public School (January 13th, Rotarians Cheryl Cowan & Karen Dowell).  In total, we handed out 135 dictionaries this past year.

Students enthusiastically received their dictionaries.  They enjoyed a friendly competition with one another and the visiting Rotarians as we raced to look up words associated with weather, sporting games and current events (e.g. earthquake).  All carefully wrote their names into the front of their books on the book labels supplied by Label Design Ltd.

Our club also 'bought forward' enough dictionaries to support an earlier distribution date (e.g. next October) for the students entering Grade 3 in the 2010-2011 academic year.

Thanks to the Rotarians who participated in the organization and distribution for the Grade 3 Dictionary Project.
